Felicity Sturgiss, Senior Land Services Officer will enlighten you about Australia's most critically endangered
crayfish. Listed in 2011, this spiny cray is one of over 50 remarkable Euastacus species many of which are also endangered. The decline of these enigmatic shredders signals a critical time for intervention. With a changing
climate variable at best, Local Land Services and DPI Fisheries are building species resilience by working with landholders to protect habitat, reinstating vital cooling riparian vegetation, acting to reduce competition and predation from invasive species and to undertake essential new surveys and research. Local community stewardship of these iconic freshwater emblems is a key element in securing the future of the Fitzroy Falls Spiny Crayfish.
